with Stan Tekiela

October 27, 2024 - November 6, 2024

About this trip

Join Stan Tekiela on a unique and comprehensive excursion perfect for avid birders and nature photographers, especially those who have a special interest in birds of prey. Discover the rainforests of Selva Verde, our private eco-reserve set on 500 protected acres that hundreds of bird species call home. Then venture to the Caribbean coast and remote Tortuguero National Park, one of the most important sea turtle nesting sites in the world. To cap off the adventure, head south to the Kéköldi Indigenous Territory, with its ideal location to observe the annual migration of raptors.  These distinct locations offer the perfect introduction to Costa Rica’s biodiversity. You'll look for sought-after resident and migrant species and experience the breadth and depth of the country's diverse natural beauty.

Highlights

Experience the beautiful, extensive networks of waterways and the diverse bird and marine life that resides in Tortuguero.

Visit the famed raptor hotspot of Kéköldi Indigenous Reserve and see species like the Broad-winged Hawk, Peregrine Falcon, Osprey, and more.

Take guided hikes in the private, 500-acre rainforest reserve at Selva Verde Lodge, with opportunities to see birds like the Keel-billed Toucan, Sunbittern, and endangered Great Green Macaw.

Bird the trails of the world-renowned La Selva Biological Station, where more than half of Costa Rica’s avian species have been recorded.

Assist with bird counting at the EcoVida Foundation Hawkwatch Tower.
